Description

Original 1st printing 17&1/2 x 22&1/2" silkscreen concert poster for a benefit performance (for the striking employees of San Francisco rock station KMPX-FM), held at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 3/20/1968; the poster lists appearances by Allmen Joy, Blue Cheer, Ace of Cups, Black Swan and Creedence Clearwater Revival, but according to at least one eyewitness account, the lineup included the Grateful Dead, Frumious Bandersnatch, Charley Musselwhite, Kaleidoscope and possibly others (see link below for more info)

As this is not part of the official Family Dog/Avalon series, it is currently not featured in Eric King's guide (although several of the handbills are), but it falls between the FD 110 and FD 111 shows.

Designer unknown ("Smith Bros."?), medium-thin flat index stock poster is in good to very good (B/B+) condition; there are a pair of semi-pronounced horizontal bends traversing the image across "Allmen Joy" and "Benefit", along with a 1&1/2" diagonal bend in the lower left corner and a few stray handling dings/light surface scuffs here and there, otherwise fine.

INCREDIBLY SCARCE 1968 Avalon Ballroom benefit poster, I have NEVER seen this one before! For more on the KMPX strike (including accounts of the Dead and others appearing), click HERE:
