Description

Official (promoter-sanctioned) 4th (*color) printing (January 1967 Communication Arts Magazine insert) 12&3/8 x 15&1/2" concert mini-poster/oversized flyer for NYC folk-blues-rock legends the Blues Project appearing with the Great Society (featuring Grace Slick) at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 4/22-23/1966.

Art by Wes Wilson, image is # 5 in the Family Dog/Avalon series. *This was the first full-color poster in the series, as well as the first Family Dog show held at the Avalon.

*NOTE: the Eric King guide refers to this version as OHB-D, although it is much larger than a handbill and is (unlike the two other pre-show handbills) printed in full-color. I'm calling it a 4th printing poster, as it is the fourth full-color version, printed after the OP-1, RP-2 and RP-3 posters.

Medium-thin flat index stock poster is in good (B) condition; there is a 3" hard diagonal bend and a soft 5-6" diagonal roll bend in the lower right margin/corner, along with a series of semi-soft horizontal/diagonal scattered around the outer margin area (and a few that creep into the image area), a VERY soft 10" diagonal bend which stretches from the top center margin down to the left center margin and a few soft surface smudges/pin-prick spots and minor handling dings here and there, otherwise OK.

An overall decent-looking example of this always-popular early-'66 Wes Wilson image from the venerable Avalon Ballroom.
