Description

Original 1st printing 7&3/8 x 10&3/8" 66-page concert/event advertiser's program for the 1968 Philadelphia Music Festival, a series of one-night multi-act performances held at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia from 7/3-8/3/1968.

Shows listed include: Ray Charles with Nina Simone and the Mandrake Memorial (7/3*), Lou Rawls and Tiny Tim (7/4), Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, Charles Lloyd Quartet, Olantunji, Don Ellis Orchestra and Maggie Harris (7/10), the Rascals, the Box Tops, Country Joe & the Fish, the Delfonics and Woody's Truck Stop (7/17*), Judy Garland (FINAL US performance), Count Basie & Orchestra, Jackie Wilson and New York String Ensemble (7/19), the Who, the Troggs, Procol Harum, Pink Floyd and Mandala (7/24*), Wilson Pickett, Mitch Ryder, Sly & the Family Stone, the Magnificent Men, John Hammond and Friends of the Family (7/26*) and the Four Tops, Martha & the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, Bobby Taylor & the Vancouvers (with Tommy Chong!), King Curtis & the Kingpins (8/3*) *with the Joshua Light Show

Design by Kenneth Hiebert (for Kenin Associates, Inc.), program contains abstract/psychedelic photos, ads for numerous local and national businesses, record/management companies and a full schedule of events.

Medium-thin flat index stock interior (thick semi-gloss stock cover with die-cut holes) program is in excellent (B+) condition; just a trace amount of surface scuffing/light age spotting, a thin corner bend and a couple of soft handling dings on the outer covers), along with a bit of minor spine creasing and a bit of handling wear on the interior pages, but that's about it... no missing/torn pages, program is completely intact.

INCREDIBLY COOL and VERY hard-to-find/obscure psychedelic concert artifact from a little-known series of shows from the Summer of 1968. Apparently the "English Invasion" show got rained out halfway through Pink Floyd's set, cancelling the Who and the Troggs (bummer!), but I think most of the other shows went off without any issues.
