Description

Original 1st printing 14 x 20&1/8" concert poster for the Grateful Dead and the Sons of Champlin appearing "with other groovies" at the Straight Theater in San Francisco, CA from 9/27-28/1967.

Art by C. Braga, image is featured in the Art of Rock on page 201 (plate 2.224).

Medium-thick vellum stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there are a few ULTRA-thin horizontal hairline bends traversing the image area (mostly visible from the reverse), along with a tiny nip tear in the upper right margin, a couple of tiny edge creases in the lower right margin, a whisper of handling and a tiny pin-prick spot next to the "G" of "Grateful", otherwise fine.... one of the best-looking examples I have seen in AGES.

Amazingly enough, about a minute-and-a-half of black and white footage from one of the shows surfaced about three months ago, check it out HERE:

KILLER 1967 1st printing Grateful Dead poster with crucial historical significance (*drummer Mickey Hart's debut performance with the band on 9/29). Unlike many existing examples, this one does NOT have "Dance Classes" hand-written anywhere on the poster.
