Description

Original 1st printing (black ink/white stock, OP-1 in the Eric King guide) 14 x 23&7/8" (trimmed down from 24&1/2") concert poster for Jefferson Airplane, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Muddy Waters appearing together at the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland in San Francisco, CA from 9/23-25 and from 9/30-10/2/1966. (*Winterland shows were canceled/moved back to the Fillmore)

Art by Wes Wilson, image ("The Sound") is # 29 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series.

Medium flat index stock poster is in used (B-) condition; the top and bottom margins have been trimmed by approximately 1/4" on each side, along with corner tip wear (tack holes with wedge pulls, resulting in missing paper), a few stray edge creases/dings and a tiny wedge pull in the lower right margin, a couple of light pin-prick surface chips in the corner tips, a few thin stress bends hiding within the image area and a fair amount of toning, otherwise OK.

Conditional issues aside, it is still a mostly-displayable 1st printing example of this classic Wes Wilson-designed poster from Bill Graham's first extended-engagement bookings, covering two full weeks of shows; were it not for a bit of unplanned civil unrest in the neighborhood that week, these would have been the first BG Winterland shows.
