Description

Original 1st printing 8&1/2 x 11" concert flyer for the ("Amazing") Charlatans appearing with Jefferson Airplane at California Hall in San Francisco, CA on 1/8/1966.

Art by Charlatans lead singer George Hunter, image ("Rock & Roll Biplane") pre-dates the numbering system implemented by the Family Dog when Chet Helms took over several weeks after this show; image is designated FD-IV in the Eric King guide.

Medium-thin flat stock flyer is in good to very good (B to B/B+) condition; there are pin/tack holes in all four corners and in the top/bottom center and lower left margins, along with a sliver of clear tape in the bottom center margin, a few stray pin-prick surface stains scattered around the image area, a tiny nip tear in the "n" of "Airplane", a light amount of handling wear, a few stray edge creases and a couple of tiny stains on the reverse, otherwise fine.

As an interesting historical footnote; this event ran concurrently with the 1/8 Fillmore Acid Test, so the promoters for both shows (Family Dog/Merry Pranksters) arranged for transportation between the two venues so neither would be undersold. Allegedly, temporary FD caretakers/promoters (and future Grateful Dead managers) Danny Rifkin and Rock Scully left their own show to check out the Fillmore and never made it back. A fascinating artifact with a VERY cool back story!
