Description

Original 1st printing 17&1/2 x 23&3/8" printer's photostat test proof (for a full-page newsprint ad that never went to press) "concert poster" for the Grateful Dead appearing at Madison Square Garden in New York City from 11/30-12/1/1978. *shows cancelled/rescheduled to 1/7-8/1979.

Designer unknown, show was promoted by John Scher Presents (this example comes from the promoter's archive), along with Ron Delsener.

Medium-thin flat vellum stock proof is in good to very good (B to B/B+) condition; there are light age spots and tiny handling creases scattered throughout the image area, along with a small grease-pencil square where the MSG logo was intended to be dropped in (just above "November 30 - December 1") and another in the bottom center margin ("were" crossed out, replaced with "are"), a few bits of paper remnants and glue residue on the reverse (item was possibly mounted to a board at one time) and a couple of bends down in the lower left corner, otherwise fine.

Somewhat basic, but VERY unique (possibly the ONLY existing example) Grateful Dead concert artifact from what was supposed to be the band's MSG debut.
