Description

Original 1st printing 14 x 20" boxing-style concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with Huey P. Newton, Kathleen Cleaver, the Lumpen of the Black Panther Party backed by the Freedom Messengers and the Vanguards at the Revolutionary Intercommunal Day of Solidarity for Bobby Seale, Erika Huggins, Angela Davis and Ruchell Magee and Post-Birthday Celebration for Huey P. Newton, held at Oakland Auditorium on 3/5/1971.

Designer unknown/not credited, image is featured in the Art of Rock on page 359 (plate  4.79)

Medium-thin index stock paper is in very good (B/B+) condition; there are flattened horizontal/vertical folds (as issued, folded into 1/8ths and originally distributed in newspaper kiosks around the East Bay), along with pin/tack holes in all four corners, a VERY light amount of creasing and a couple of small pieces of mounting tape on the reverse, otherwise it is a GREAT-looking example of this fairly obscure Grateful Dead Black Panthers poster.

No tapes exist for this one, but according to Deadbase, they performed ONE song-  "Turn on Your Lovelight".
