Description

 Original 1st printing 25 x 38" (approximately- the top edge/margin is heavily worn/sliced) concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing (*with Sons of Champlin- not listed) at Nassau Coliseum in Hempstead, NY (Long Island) from 3/15-16/1973. (*another show added on 3/19, New Riders of the Purple Sage opened)

 Design by David Byrd, image ("A Swell Dance Concert") is pictured in the Art of Rock book on page 403 (plate 4.220) and is (informally) known as # 288 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series.

 Medium-thick flat index stock poster is in used (C) condition; as this poster was damaged in the BGP office fire of 1985, there are numerous conditional issues from the aforementioned top edge wear to moisture-related paper warping/staining (from the SFFD fire hoses), burn marks, heavy edge wear and so on... the photo should tell the story on this one- definitely more of an artifact than a collectible, albeit one with an interesting background (search "Bill Graham 1985 fire" online to get the full story...)

 HUGELY popular Grateful Dead image from the first shows performed after Pigpen died.... interestingly, David Byrd's design depicts a couple doing a 1940's-era dance called "the Big Apple"- an amusing New York tribute. Listen to the 3/16 show (with Bill Graham intro) here;
