Description

Original 1st printing 14&1/8 x 22" cardboard boxing-style concert poster for the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi appearing with the Beach Boys at Washington (DC) Coliseum on 5/3/1968.

Printed/designed by Art Craft Litho & Printing, extra-thick cardboard stock letterpress poster has been professionally restored to excellent (B+) condition; the upper left corner has been replaced/patched-in with new cardboard and a trio of tape marks along the top margin have been mostly obliterated and there remain a couple of thin stress bends hiding within the image area, along with a couple of tiny corner-tip bumps and a trace of surface wear (light smudging and a couple of soft pin-prick splatter marks that can be seen when the poster is tilted towards a light source), but overall the piece looks REALLY nice.

Amazingly weird late-'60's artifact from when the Beach Boys were convinced to take the notorious 1960's-era Indian guru (and one-time spritual advisor to the Beatles, Donovan and... Mike Love) on a part lecture/part music tour that lasted all of THREE shows; from Wikipedia:

"The tour opened on May 3 at the 8000-seat Washington Coliseum, playing to 1500 fans. William Rice, in his review for The Washington Post, described the band's 40-minute performance as "dreadful", citing the poor sound system, the under-rehearsed backing musicians, and the Beach Boys' out-of-tune singing. Following an intermission, the Maharishi addressed the audience for 30 minutes, while seated on a green sofa in the center of the stage. His lecture was also hindered by the poor acoustics, and drew jeers and heckling from many of the fans. By this point, the Beach Boys had gone on to the Baltimore Civic Center, in preparation for the next stop on the itinerary."
