Description

Original 1st printing (magenta/light purple lettering, OP-2 in the Eric King guide) 13&1/2 x 24&1/2" concert poster for Jefferson Airplane, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Muddy Waters appearing together at the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland in San Francisco, CA from 9/23-25 and from 9/30-10/2/1966. (*Winterland shows were canceled/moved back to the Fillmore)

Art by Wes Wilson, image ("The Sound") is # 29 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series.

Medium flat vellum stock poster is in decent (B/B-) condition; there are mutiple pin/staple holes in all four corners (and a few hiding within the image area), with a bit of missing paper in the upper/lower right corner tips, along with a series of tiny nicks/tears and small creases scattered around the outer margin area, a few stray surface dings/pin-prick spots here and there, a subtle amount of toning, a slight warp to the paper and a bit of wear (glue spots, flair pen scratch, age spotting/toning) on the reverse... while this one has been around the proverbial block a few times, it is still a presentable example of this original 1st printing 1966 Fillmore poster that should be a welcome addition to just about any psychedelic poster collection.

These shows were Bill Graham's first extended-engagement bookings, covering two full weeks of shows. Were it not for a bit of unplanned civil unrest in the neighborhood that week, these would have been the first BG Winterland shows.
