Description

Original 1st printing 5&1/4 x 7&7/8" blank-reverse concert handbill for the Grateful Dead appearing with Magic Fern and Daily Flash on 7/16/1967 (*Daily Flash/Magic Fern only on 6/14), along with a free "Be-In" event held at Golden Gardens Beach (in Ballard) on 7/15/1967 (*no bands mentioned, but The Dead and Daily Flash both appeared, along with Time Machine, Papa Bear's Medicine Show and several others).

Art by Walt Crowley, thin vellum/"construction paper" stock handbill is in good/decent (B to B/B-) condition; there are a few tiny pin holes hiding in the image area, along with a couple of nips of missing paper along the (possibly slightly trimmed, hard to tell) bottom margin with tiny "patched-in" areas (sealed on the reverse with clear tape) in the corner tips, a few tiny pin-prick spots and smudges hiding within the image area, plus a bit of scrapbook-glue residue and a tiny pull on the reverse, otherwise OK... still a very presentable specimen.

I looked high and low to see if this image existed anywhere in any form (online or print) and came up with NOTHING... there is a poster from this show (SFH 048 in Scott McDougall's "Split Fountain Hieroglyphics", Art of Rock page 248), but to my knowledge, at this moment this is the ONLY example of the handbill to have surfaced in public.

HELLACIOUSLY SCARCE Grateful Dead concert artifact from the band's first-ever visit to Seattle, read more about the Dead's early free-show history HERE:
