Original 1st printing 16 x 22" (appx.- item has hand-trimmed extra margin area around all four sides) marquee/schedule poster for a series of late-Spring 1968 shows held the Fillmore East in New York City. *item is a ONE-OF-A-KIND blue-ink only test proof for a poster that was eventually resized and issued in an extra-large 28 x 41" billboard format (and a 4 x 6" card)
Shows listed include: the Byrds, Tim Buckley and the Foundations (5/17-18), Ravi Shankar with Alla Rakha (5/24), Country Joe & the Fish and Blue Cheer (5/25) Moby Grape and the Fugs (5/31-6/10), Electric Flag (with unlisted special guest Jimi Hendrix on June 8th) and Quicksilver Messenger Service (6/7-8); all shows backed by the incredible Joshua Light Show.
Design by Jerry Pompili/Willson-Frissora, image is an un-numbered part of the Bill Graham/Fillmore East series (the dates listed started about a week after the BG FE-7 Hendrix show);
Medium-thin flat vellum stock poster/proof is in excellent (B+) condition; aside from the aforementioned hand-cut extra margins (the borders indicate that the poster was meant to be trimmed down to approximately 14 x 20"), there is a bit of moisture warping (concentrated mostly along the lower margin area), a few light bends and soft handling creases here and there, a series of horizontal tape shadows on the reverse and a bit of light toning, but as this is the ONLY example- you can pretty much guarantee that there is not a better one out there.
As a note of provenance, this poster originally was obtained directly from the printer's personal archive. A very cool-looking and ULTRA-unique Fillmore East item from 1968 with a FANTASTIC lineup (not to mention Jimi Hendrix!)
