Original 1st printing 14 x 20" concert/event poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), Moby Grape, the Sparrow, Country Joe & the Fish and the Grateful Dead (*not listed) appearing in a benefit (a fundraiser for the Straight Theatre and Newstage), held at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 3/5/1967.
Art by B. Kliban, medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in good (B) condition; there is a pronounced 5" diagonal bend in the upper left corner, along with a larger (but much thinner) 7" diagonal roll crease along the lower left margin, a 1" vertical stress bend in the bottom center margin, a hard crease and small nip tear in the upper right margin, a couple of tiny edge nicks scattered around the outer margin area and a few stray semi-soft pinch bends hiding within the image area, otherwise fine.
Semi-uncommon early-'67 Avalon benefit poster with a stellar lineup and a great design. Of course, Bernard Kliban went on to much greater fame in the 1970's with his cartoon cats, Tunisian tongues and comically oversized plates of food.
