Description

Original 1st printing 12&5/8 x 20" concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with Quicksilver Messenger Service and the P.H. Phactor Jug Band at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR from 2/2-3/1968.

Art by George Hunter, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 287 (plate 3.103).

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in decent/used (B/B- to B-) condition; there are a pair of approximately 1" square wedges of paper missing from the upper left/right margins (poster was obviously pulled down somewhat hastily at the time of the shows), along with a small moisture-drop stain and 1&1/2" edge tear in the lower left margin, a series of thin stress creases and semi-soft handling bends hiding within the image area, a couple of thin diagonal edge/corner bends, a slight warp to the paper and a fair amount of dirt/scuffing along the reverse top margin... definitely a well-loved example.

THAT SAID, the conditional issues don't detract very much due to the design of the piece- to the contrary, it lends itself quite nicely to the old-west-style "torn down" look of the poster. In this particular case, the piece was quite literally torn down.

KILLER original Grateful Dead "Notice!" concert poster from the legendary winter 1968 tour of the Pacific Northwest. Stream the 2/2 show HERE:
