Description

Original 1st printing 11&1/2 x 26" concert for the Grateful Dead appearing with the Hindustani Jazz Sextet (featuring Hari-Har-Rao and Don Ellis) and Big Brother & the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin- one of her earliest performances with BBHC) at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, CA on 7/14/1966. (*the day before the BG 17 shows)

Art by McCallum, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 185 (plate 2.182), this is a hand-lettered ticket outlet poster (written in pen in the bottom margin) that has additionally been HAND-SIGNED (in black sharpie) by GD drummer Mickey Hart (this show was over a year before he joined, but it probably didn't occur to either the person who obtained the autograph, or Mickey).

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in good (B) condition; there are a series of stray pin/tack holes (top/bottom center margins and on the "Hi" of "Hindu", along with a light to moderate amount of handling/creasing, a series of tiny diagonal creases in the bottom left corner tip, a 1" diagonal bend in the top right corner, a few stray pin-prick surface indentations/tiny stress bends, a 1" vertical bend in the top margin, and as mentioned above, "Tickets On Sale Here" has been hand-written (in black pen) in the bottom margin.... confirming that this example was indeed on public display in 1966.

VERY EARLY and somewhat hard-to-find Grateful Dead Fillmore poster from one of only a few non-Bill Graham sponsored/sanctioned events held at the Fillmore (show was put on by SF Calliope Company).
