Description

Original 1st printing 10&3/8 x 7" concert/event handbill, along with a trio of 8&1/2 x 11" press-release information sheets for "Whatever It Is", a three-day concert/symposium/"happening", held on the campus of San Francisco State College from 9/30-10/2/1966, conceived by Stewart Brand (Whole Earth Catalog) and the Associated Students of SFSC/Experimental College. Participants included: the Merry Pranksters (conducting one of the last Acid Test events, featuring the Grateful Dead), Mimi Farina, the Only Alternative and His Other Possibilities, Daemon Lover, Congress of Wonders, the Committee, San Francisco Mime Troupe and many more.

Designer unknown/not credited, image (poster with paste-up) is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 187 (plate 2.188).

Thin flat stock handbill is in BEAUTIFUL near mint (A-) condition; there may be a soft handling ding somewhere, but I can't really see anything- but just to be safe, I'll say it's just a hair below mint... a VERY clean example.

The mimeographed press sheets are in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition overall; just a few soft edge bends, stray handling dings and a bit of edge toning on a couple of the sheets, but still in pretty nice shape overall.

ABSOLUTELY KILLER EXAMPLE of this hard-to-find Acid Test/Grateful Dead artifact, check out local San Francisco news (KRON) coverage of the event HERE:
