Description

Original 1st printing 12&1/4 x 21&3/8" concert/event poster for Monterey International Pop Festival, held at the Monterey (CA) County Fairgrounds from 6/16-18/1967.

Although no bands/acts are listed, the 3-day event featured appearances by: the Association, Laura Nyro, Blues Project, the Paupers, Buffalo Springfield (with David Crosby), the Byrds, Simon & Garfunkel, Steve Miler Blues Band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Al Kooper & Friends, Electric Flag, Canned Heat, Grateful Dead, Big Brother & the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin), Jefferson Airplane, Otis Redding with Booker T. & the MG's, The Who, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Country Joe & the Fish, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Beverley, Lou Rawls, Eric Burdon & the Animals, High Masekela and the Mamas & the Papas (with Scott McKenzie).

Design by Tom Wilkes, image is featured in the Art of Rock on page 258 (plate 3.5).

Medium-thick silver foil-coated smooth index stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there are small tack/pin holes in all four corners, the top and bottom center margins and in the upper left/right margin, along with a couple of soft diagonal creases in the lower left corner tip, a pair of thin hairline 1" bends in the right center margin, a tiny print hickey just to the left of the "J" of "June", a few very light (and very well-camouflaged) surface scratches/soft surface scuffs hiding within the image area and a few light smudges on the reverse, otherwise fine.

Overall, a really nice-looking example of the small-version Monterey Pop poster.
