Original 1st printing 14 x 20" concert poster for the Grateful Dead in their New York City debut at the Cafe Au Go-Go in Greenwich Village from 6/1-10/1967 (Deadbase lists the dates as June 6-11).
Art by Daniel Fennell, with a photo by Gene Anthony and the Christ figure re-purposed from a painting by Andrea Mantegna (*Thanks, Steve!), image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 305 (plate 3.163).
Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in good (B) condition; a set of tack holes (all four corners and in the lower left margin) with a small 1/4-1/2" diagonal wedge out of the top right corner tip, a pair of small tape pulls in the upper left/right corners, a few stray edge dings/nicks and a couple of very tiny nip tears scattered around the outer margin area, light handling wear, a little bit of surface dirt/smudging, a touch of toning, a couple of tiny stress bends/pinch creases and a soft bend or two hiding within the image area and a very light set of tape pulls on the reverse, otherwise fine.
An oft-requested Grateful Dead image from the AOR, the interior gatefold of the Dead's 1974 "Steal Your Face" album has a photo of the band standing in front of a wall in NYC plastered with this very same poster (see photo- c. Rosie McGee 1967)
