Original 1st printing 6&3/4" diameter round double-sided concert/event handbill for the Newport Pop Festival, held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, CA from 8/3-4/1968.
Handbill lists appearances by Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Canned Heat, the Byrds, Steppenwolf, Tiny Tim, Sonny & Cher, Things to Come, Illinois Speed Press, James Cotton Blues Band, Country Joe & the Fish, Blue Cheer, Electric Flag, Iron Butterfly, Eric Burdon & the Animals, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Chambers Brothers.
Designer unknown/not credited, image (yellow stock version) is featured in the Art of Rock on page 272 (plate 3.61), this is the BLUE stock version.
Medium flat index card stock handbill is in good/decent (B to B/B-) condition; there is a bit of toning/discoloration, along with a small cluster of pin/tack holes in the top center margin, a 3-4" thin diagonal bend stretching across the top edge (from about 11:00 to 1:00), a few stray soft pin-prick spots here and there, a tape pull on the reverse side and a few minor edge dings... definitely a bit on the used side, but still a neat little multi-act festival artifact from Southern California.
On a side note, apparently there was a HUGE backstage pie fight between members of the Airplane, the Dead and others after the final show (see photo of a pie-smeared Jerry Garcia for reference).
