Original 1st printing 14 x 20" concert poster for the Grateful Dead in their New York City debut at the Cafe Au Go-Go in Greenwich Village from 6/1-10/1967 (Deadbase lists the dates as June 6-11).
Art by Daniel Fennell, with a photo by Gene Anthony and the Christ figure re-purposed from a painting by Andrea Mantegna (*Thanks, Steve!), image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 305 (plate 3.163).
Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in excellent (B+) condition; aside from a set of MINUSCULE pin holes (all four corner tips), a couple of well-camouflaged hairline-thin stress bends hiding within the image area, a bit of light handling wear and a pair of dark tape marks on the reverse side, it is an absolutely FANTASTIC example of this always-in-demand Grateful Dead poster from the band's 1st-ever NYC shows.
The interior gatefold of the Dead's 1974 "Steal Your Face" album has a photo of the band standing in front of a wall in NYC plastered with this very same poster (see photo- c. Rosie McGee 1967)
