Description

Original 1st printing 22&1/2 x 17&1/2" concert poster for a Hells Angels Motorcycle Club-sponsored dance headlined by Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), along with the Youngbloods and Rejoice, held at the Carousel Ballroom In San Francisco, CA on 5/15/1968.

Artist unknown/not credited, image ("The Hells Angels Present in Tear-Ass Sound and Color") is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 207 (plate 2.249).

Medium-thick flat index stock poster has been professionally restored to excellent (B+) condition; the poster appears to have been backed with a thin layer of archival rice paper (for stability and to reinforce a bit of edge tattering and a small tear in the left center margin), along with several pressed-out/flattened thin hairline bends (with the exception of a 3" diagonal bend in the upper right corner) and a couple of TINY (nearly undetectable) areas of touch-up, otherwise it looks pretty sharp- the lower corner tips appear to be slightly rounded and there may be a pin-prick sspot or two lurking within the image area, but these issues are pretty negligible in the general scheme of things.

According to numerous sources, this was an EXTREMELY raucous event- the participants spilled so much beer that it leaked through the floor to the business below, effectively ending the musicians' stewardship of the venue. (*photo- Eve Crane, 1968
