Description

Original 1st printing 14&1/4 x 20" concert poster for the Sir Douglas Quintet appearing with Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin) and "a Special Surprize Visit"* appearing at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 10/15-16/1966.

Art by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley with a photo by Edward Steichen (Gloria Swanson, 1924), image is # 30 in the Family Dog/Avalon series.

Medium flat vellum stock poster is in good (B) condition; there are a series of semi-camouflaged thin horizontal/diagonal stress bends traversing the image area, along with a bit of uneven toning/discoloration along the lower left margin, a few stray tack/pin holes scattered along the lower margin, in the right center margin and in the upper left/right corners (plus an additional hole hiding in the ticket outlet area), a touch of mild paper toning, a few tiny corner-tip bends/edge dings scattered around the outer margin area and a bit of red ink spread in the lower left/right margins, otherwise OK.

The "Surprize Visit"* alluded to above was by none other than the 13th Floor Elevators, making this FD anniversary celebration an all-Texan-fronted affair... not to mention the ad-hoc jam fronted by Jerry Garcia and Pigpen on the 16th (as mentioned in "Mojo Navigator"*).
