Description

Original 1st printing/first state (initial/early lineup with black "Pop Festival" lettering) 17&3/8 x 23" concert/event poster for the 8/31-9/1/1969 New Orleans Pop Festival, held at the Baton Rouge International Raceway in Prairieville, LA.

Art by St. Germain, this version of the poster lists festival participants Canned Heat, Chicago Transit Authority, Janis Joplin, the Byrds, Grateful Dead, Oliver, Iron Butterfly, Country Joe & the Fish, It's A Beautiful Day, Santana, the Youngbloods, Spiral Starecase, Dr. John the Night Tripper and Tyrannosaurus Rex (featuring Marc Bolan), a "Custom Bike Show", "Heavy Fireworks Display" and more. Not listed (but did appear): Jefferson Airplane (with Glen McKay's Headlights), Lee Michaels, Sweetwater, Cat Mother and a host of local acts.

Medium-thin flat vellum stock poster is in near mint to excellent (A-/B+ to B+) condition; aside from a touch of mild moisture rippling to the paper, a stray handling ding or two lurking within the image area and a trace of edge toning/corner-tip wear, it is an UNBEATABLE example of the VERY hard-to-find 1st-state version of the NOLA Pop poster.

KILLER 1st printing 1969 festival poster with a really interesting design and an absolutely unbeatable lineup. Check out the Grateful Dead's set HERE:
