Description

Original 1st printing 4&1/4 x 11" (unfolds to 17 x 11" total size) double-sided mail-order ticket brochure for the "Celebration of Life" Festival, scheduled to be held near McCrea, LA from 6/21-28/1971. (*event was canceled after 4 days)

Designer unknown, poster lists appearances by Alex Taylor, Amboy Dukes, B.B. King, Boz Scaggs, Buddy Miles, Ballin' Jack, the Beach Boys, Bloodrock, Canned Heat, the Chambers Brothers, Chuck Berry, Country Joe McDonald, Dixieland Jazz Bands, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, Edgar Winter's White Trash, Eric Burdon, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Ike & Tina Turner Review, It's A Beautiful Day, the James Gang, John Hartford, John B. Sebastian, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter, Leon Russell, Melanie, Miles Davis, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Ravi Shankar, Richie Havens, Roland Kirk, Sly & the Family Stone, Voices of East Harlem and War, plus "20 Additional Artists" , a presentation of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and more* (many bands did not actually play, but a few of the bands listed did appear (John Sebastian, Chuck Berry, War, Boz Scaggs), along with a number of unlisted acts, including Stephen Stills)

Medium flat index stock brochure is in good (B) condition; there are three slightly worn vertical machine folds (as issued), along with a semi-flattened horizontal crease, a bit of light surface dirt, a few light creases/handling dings and light surface smudges here and there, a couple of stray edge dings/nips scattered around the outer margin area and a touch of toning, otherwise fine.

Semi-uncommon early-'70's festival artifact from a mostly-forgotten event (for good reason, apparently -it was a completely disorganized mess).
