Original 1st printing 16 x 22" concert poster for the Russian River Rock Festival, a planned series of shows to be held in the Fall of 1967 at the Rio Nido (CA) Ballroom. *no acts are listed, but the Grateful Dead appeared at the venue on 9/3 (and possibly 9/4)
Art by Melinda Gebbie, the image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 229 (plate 2.328).
Medium-thin flat vellum stock poster is in decent/used (B/B-) condition; the words "Russian River" (and a couple of other small areas) have been hand-painted (most likely in the late-'60's) in day-glo fluorescent pink paint, along with a moderate amount of edge/corner-tip wear (creasing, small nip tears, tack holes in the corners), a large semi-pronounced diagonal/vertical bend extending through the poster from the top center margin down to the lower left center margin, a series of thin bends scattered around the outer margin area, a few stray handling/stress bends and pin-prick surface spots here and there... definitely a well-loved example.
Conditional issues aside, this is the FIRST example of this poster that I have ever had pass through... INCREDIBLY scarce oddball AOR/Grateful Dead piece any way you slice it. Check out the Dead;s 9/3 show HERE:
