Description

Original 1st printing 13&7/8 x 20" concert/event poster for the Grateful Dead and the Wildflower appearing in a benefit (a fundraiser for the Straight Theatre in Haight-Ashbury), held at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 5/19/1966. (*event also featured performances by beat poet Michael McClure, along with Ed Bullins and Black Arts West and the Outfit).

Art by Jacob, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 106 (plate 2.16).

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster has been professionally restored to excellent (B+) condition; there has been a bit of work done around the outer margin area, including tack holes filled, tears sealed and stain removal, along with a series of semi-flattened stress creases/bends scattered around the image area, a few small areas of touch-up within the image area and there remains a tiny pin-prick stain in the upper right margin and a bit of relatively minor handling wear, but overall it looks quite presentable.

This was the band's VERY FIRST appearance at the venue, pre-dating the FD 10 "Hayfever" show by a week.
