Original 1st printing 14&1/8 x 20" concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with Quicksilver Messenger Service and the New Tweedy Brothers at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 6/10-11/1966.
Art by Wes Wilson, image ("The Quick & the Dead") is # 12 in the Family Dog/Avalon series (thick stock version, OP-1 in the Eric King guide) and marks the first time a skeleton was used to advertise a Dead show.
Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in used (B-) condition; there is a moderate to heavy degree of paper toning throughout, along with a bit of moisture wear/tattering and a bit of missing paper edge along the lower right center margin (about 5-6" long), staple/tack holes in all four corners with a 3/4" wedge of paper missing from the lower left corner/margin, a 1/2" drag tear in the lower right corner, a bit of creasing and a small wedge tear in the left center margin, a series of creases/small tears along the right margin, a few stray soft moisture stains along the bottom margin, pen scratch on the reverse and assorted other little issues here and there... no doubt this example has been around the proverbial block and would make a pretty good restoration candidate, but it absolutely REEKS with authenticity- I'm 99% sure this one was taken down at the time of the shows.
"Ragged But Right", as the great George Jones (by way of the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band) might put it...
