Description

Official promoter-issued 3rd printing 14 x 20" concert poster for Quicksilver Messenger Service appearing with Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin -her first headlining performances with BBHC) at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 6/24-25/1966.

Art by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley, image ("Zig-Zag Man") is # 14 in the Family Dog/Avalon series.

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in excellent (B+) condition; physically, there is nothing more than a tiny stress bend above "Lights" and a stray soft pinch ding or two scattered around the outer margin area, otherwise it appears to be nearly perfect- however, this particular example has a very pronounced issue with the gold pass of ink; either the reservoirs were overfilled/leaking, or the printing plate had deteriorated over the course of the run and wasn't picking up the correct amount of ink, I'm not sure exactly.

At any rate, this is still a fairly interesting piece if you are into the oddball print variations. Not sure what you'd call this one... the "gold smear" edition, maybe?
