Description

Original 1st printing 14&1/8 x 19&7/8" concert poster for the Grateful ("Greatful") Dead appearing with Sopwith Camel at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 8/19-20/1966.

Art by Alton Kelley with Stanley Mouse, image ("Frankenstein") is # 22 in the Family Dog/Avalon series.

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in good/decent (B/B-) condition; there is a single tack hole with a small drag tear and a small tape mark in the top center margin, along with a series of pin-prick splatter stains (mostly on the reverse side, but a few of them bleed through (lower left margin, lower right margin, around "Sopwith"), a couple of thin vertical drip stain/ink streaks in the upper margin (just to the left of the Dog logo), light handling/corner-tip/edge wear and the poster has a moderate amount of ink streaking from the printing process (either the plate wasn't cleaned, or something got on the rollers (dirt/water/oil)., otherwise OK... still a very presentable ORIGINAL 1st printing "Frankenstein".

According to some sources, this was the same weekend that Warner Brothers' Joe Smith signed the Dead to their recording contract. Historic Dead!
