Description

Original 1st printing 5&1/2 x 8&5/8" concert handbill for the Grateful Dead appearing with Moby Grape, Love (featuring Arthur Lee), Loading Zone and Blue Crumb Truck Factory at Winterland in San Francisco, CA on 3/3/1967* (after a few false starts, this was actually the very first GD appearance at Winterland).

Art by (Donna) Herrick, (full-color poster) image ("The First Annual Love Circus") is featured in the Art of Rock on page 188 (plate 2.194)- this is the monochrome handbill.

Thin textured semi-gloss stock handbill is in near mint (A-) condition; I really can't see anything wrong with this one, but there may be a tiny handling ding or two hiding somewhere if you look REALLY hard... a VERY clean/crisp example.

Nifty-looking little concert handbill from the Dead's '67 Winterland debut. Charles Perry details the GD's participation at the show, the involvement of the SF Diggers and the event promoters ("Love Conspiracy Commune") in his book "Haight-Ashbury- A History" (pages 144-145, 2005 softcover edition)... apparently they (the promoters) were busted shortly after the show for engaging in certain "extracurricular activities".
