Description

Original 1st printing (dark purple lettering, OP-3 in the Eric King guide) 13&1/2 x 24&1/2" concert poster for Jefferson Airplane, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Muddy Waters appearing together at the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland in San Francisco, CA from 9/23-25 and from 9/30-10/2/1966. (*Winterland shows were canceled/moved back to the Fillmore)

Art by Wes Wilson, image ("The Sound") is # 29 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series.

Medium flat vellum stock poster is in good to very good (B to B/B+) condition; there are three tiny vertical edge tears along the bottom margin, along with a 2" diagonal bend in the upper left margin/corner, a couple of tiny corner-tip splits in the lower left/right corner tips, a tiny edge nip in the lower right margin, a bit of light handling wear/creasing along the top/bottom margins, a soft handling ding or two hiding within the image area, a tiny split in the upper left margin and a couple of light pulls and a bit of pencil scratch ("BG-28-OP2") on the reverse, otherwise fine.

An overall GORGEOUS 1st printing example of this ICONIC early Bill Graham poster.

These shows were Bill Graham's first extended-engagement bookings, covering two full weeks of shows. Were it not for a bit of unplanned civil unrest in the neighborhood that week, these would have been the first BG Winterland shows.
