Description

Original 1st printing 14 x 19&1/4" concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin)* appearing with H.P. Lovecraft and the Clara Ward Singers at the Carousel Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 5/24-26/1968. *BBHC cancelled

Art by Crazy Arab, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 180 (plate 2.164). This example is one of the marked/2nd-state versions (*see below)

Medium flat index stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; aside from the crossed-out band name, there are a couple of tiny nip tears and a series of ULTRA-tiny edge creases and a hairline-thin stress bend or two scattered along the left margin, plus a single tack hole in the top center margin, a few well-camouflaged soft handling dings here and there and a thin strip of paper toning on the reverse side, otherwise fine.

*Big Brother backed out of the show and some posters and handbills were re-distributed with the band's name crossed out with different colored magic markers. They were replaced on the bill by Mad River (thanks to Ross for the info!)
