Description

Original 1st printing 23 x 29" concert/event poster for the "Celebration of Life" Festival, scheduled to be held near McCrea, LA from 6/21-28/1971. (*event was canceled after 4 days)

Designer unknown, poster lists appearances by Cat Stevens, Mandrill, the Allman Brothers Band, Alex Taylor, Amboy Dukes, B.B. King, Boz Scaggs, Buddy Miles, Ballin' Jack, the Beach Boys, Bloodrock, Canned Heat, the Chambers Brothers, Chuck Berry, Country Joe McDonald, Dixieland Jazz Band, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, Edgar Winter's White Trash, Eric Burdon, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Ike & Tina Turner Review, It's A Beautiful Day, the James Gang, John Hartford, John B. Sebastian, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Winter, Leon Russell, Melanie, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Ravi Shankar, Richie Havens, Roland Kirk, Seatrain, Sly & the Family Stone, Symphony Orchestra, Voices of East Harlem and War, plus "20 More Artists, Giant Fireworks Display" and more* (many bands did not actually play, but a few of the bands listed on the poster did appear (John Sebastian, Chuck Berry, War, Boz Scaggs), along with a number of unlisted acts, including Stephen Stills)

Medium-thin glossy stock poster is in good/decent (B/B-) condition; there are vertical/horizontal folds with a bit of wear (a couple of tiny pin-prick holes and a touch of fraying) around where the folds intersect in the middle of the image area, along with a light to moderate degree of creasing/handling wear, a set of pin/tack holes (all four corners), a few stray edge dings and tiny nip tears scattered around the outer margin area, a couple of soft bends and tiny pin-prick scuffs hiding within the image area and a couple of thin diagonal bends in the upper left/right corners, otherwise OK.

Semi-uncommon festival item from a mostly-forgotten (for good reason, apparently -it was a completely disorganized mess) event from the same group of promoters that put on the Atlanta, Toronto and New Orleans Pop Festivals. *This is the first state/version of the poster (before Cat Stevens and Mandrill were added at the top of the left/right banners).
