Description

Original 1st printing 17&1/2 x 22&1/4" concert/event poster for the Daytop Music Festival, a weekend-long benefit event held at the Daytop facility (a drug rehab center) in Prince's Bay (Staten Island) and at the Village Gate in NYC from 6/14-17/1968.

Art by Gail Warkler and H. Barry, poster lists festival participants Pete Seeger, Janis Ian, Hugh Masekela, Duke Ellington, Jackie McLean, Thad Jones, Art Farmer, Mel Lewis, David Amram, Kenny Burrell, Ray Baretto and MANY more; Scene Club impresario Steve Paul is listed, as he put together the "rock" portion of the show, which featured Blood, Sweat & Tears, Kenny Rankin, Jeremy & the Satyrs and the Grateful Dead* (none of whom are mentioned on the poster)... *the Dead pulled out of the show at the last minute and were replaced by the Jeff Beck Group featuring special guest Jimi Hendrix (see link below).

Medium-thick glossy stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there are six well-camouflaged staple holes along the left/right  margins, along with a bit of minor corner-tip/edge wear, a couple of VERY soft vertical roll bends, a few tiny pin-prick surface scuffs, light fingerprint smudges and hairline-thin stress bends hiding within the image area and a couple of small stains on the reverse, otherwise fine.

MEGA-SCARCE mid-1968 psychedelic event poster from a mostly-forgotten NYC benefit show that just happened to feature two of the most legendary guitarists of the late-'60's appearing together on stage. Read more about the event (and the jam) HERE:
