Description

Original 1st printing 22&1/2 x 17&1/2" concert poster for a Hells Angels Motorcycle Club-sponsored dance headlined by Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), along with the Youngbloods and Rejoice, held at the Carousel Ballroom In San Francisco, CA on 5/15/1968.

Artist unknown/not credited, image ("The Hells Angels Present in Tear-Ass Sound and Color") is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 207 (plate 2.249).

Medium-thick flat index stock poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; there are staple/tack holes and creasing/wear in all four corners, along with a few stray edge tears and tiny creases scattered around the outer margin area, a few thin stress bends and minor handling dings hiding within the image area, a couple of tiny pin-prick surface spots clustered above the skull, a hint of edge toning and a series of small tape pulls/light scuffs/spots on the reverse side, otherwise OK... definitely one of the less-hammered examples I have come across.

According to numerous sources, this was an EXTREMELY raucous event- the participants spilled so much beer that it leaked through the floor to the business below, effectively ending the musicians' stewardship of the venue. (*photo- Eve Crane, 1968
