Description

Original 1st printing (1st state- thick cardboard stock version) 28&1/8 x 22" concert/event poster for the Second Annual Atlanta International Pop Festival, held in Byron, GA from 7/3-5/1970.

 Art by Lance Bragg, image (the third/final state thin paper version with several lineup changes) is featured in the Art of Rock on page 390 (plate 4.178) -this is the ORIGINAL pre-show version that was distributed before the lineup (and artwork) was altered.

 Poster lists initial festival participants the Allman Brothers Band, B.B. King, Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, the Chambers Brothers, Country Joe & the Fish, Ginger Baker's Air Force, Richie Havens, Jimi Hendrix, the Hampton Grease Band, Yogi Bhajan, Taos, Ballin' Jack, Bloodrock, John B. Sebastian, Jethro Tull, Sly & the Family Stone, Spirit, Terry Reid, Cactus and Gypsy, along with a "Symposium of Awareness", a giant fireworks show, super jam sessions and more. Several acts not mentioned on this version were added later, including Procol Harum, Mountain, Ten Years After, Ravi Shankar and It's A Beautiful Day (replacing Country Joe and Sly, both of whom dropped off the bill.).

 Thick cardboard stock poster is in decent (B/B-) condition; there are nail holes in all four corners and in the direct center of the image, along with a fairly extensive amount of edge/corner wear (missing paper in the upper left/lower right corner tips, a fair amount of moisture wear and several decent-sized edge tears, the largest in the top center margin), a bit of light pencil scratch in the left margin, a moderate amount of surface wear, several thin stress bends hiding within the image area, large tape pulls and staining on the reverse side and numerous other little issues here and there... definitely a well-worn survivor of the times, and most likely removed from outdoor public display in 1970.

 VERY cool-looking (if a bit used) example of the ORIGINAL LINEUP/FIRST STATE cardboard Atlanta Pop poster. Check out the Allman Brothers Band's set HERE;
