Description

Original 1st printing 20&1/8 x 24&3/8" concert poster for Quicksilver Messenger Service appearing with Initial Shock and the Sons of Champlin at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA from 10/28-30/1968, with (possibly one-of-a-kind) ORIGINAL HAND-DRAWN ARTWORK (in colored magic marker) for what would have been the FD 148 show featuring Kaleidoscope (with David Lindley) appearing with Johnny Winter and Magic Sam at the Avalon from 12/6-8/1968 on the reverse.

Design (printed side) by San Andreas Fault (Tad Hunter) with a photo by Steve Rahn, image is # 147 in the Family Dog/Avalon series. The printed handbill image for the Kaleidoscope/Johnny Winter show advertised on the reverse appears in the Art of Rock on page 107 (plate 2.20) - there was no officially-printed "poster" for this show.

Medium flat index stock poster is in excellent (B+) condition; just a few tiny edge dings scattered around the outer margin, along with a very light amount of handling wear, a couple of soft corner-tip bends and a few tiny surface scuffs here and there, otherwise fine.

Absolutely FASCINATING late-period Family Dog artifact from the final days of the Avalon; apparently as the money ran out, the staff turned to hand-drawing their own concert poster designs on the back sides of old poster stock to make new posters for upcoming shows. There is also a hand-drawn poster for a previous show listed in the Eric King guide (FD-681122C), so it would seem that this practice was already in place by the time this one was done (late November-early December 1968).

First time I have EVER seen anything like this- VERY unique!
