Original 1st printing 14 x 20" concert/event poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), Moby Grape, the Sparrow, Country Joe & the Fish and the Grateful Dead (*not listed) appearing in a benefit (a fundraiser for the Straight Theatre and Newstage), held at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 3/5/1967.
Art by B. Kliban, medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there are a pair of tiny pin holes in the upper left/right corner tips, along with a small pinch crease and a thin bend in the upper left margin, a series of nearly-invisible hairline-thin diagonal bends in the lower right corner, a bit of light creasing along the top margin area and a few stray handling creases scattered around the outer margin area, otherwise it is a VERY nice example (it looks better than it sounds) of this semi-uncommon early-'67 Avalon benefit poster with a stellar lineup and a great design.
Of course, Bernard Kliban went on to much greater fame in the 1970's with his cartoon cats, Tunisian tongues and comically oversized plates of food.
