Description

Original 1st printing 13&7/8 x 20" concert/event poster for the Grateful Dead and the Wildflower appearing in a benefit (a fundraiser for the Straight Theatre in Haight-Ashbury), held at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, CA on 5/19/1966. (*event also featured performances by beat poet Michael McClure, along with Ed Bullins and Black Arts West and the Outfit).

Art by Jacob, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 106 (plate 2.16).

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in very good (B/B+) condition; there are light tape pulls and tiny creases in all four corner tips, along with a series of ultra-thin bends/creases scattered around the outer margin area, a series of hairline-thin vertical stress bends hiding within the image area, a small diagonal bend in the upper right corner, a very thin horizontal bend in the right center margin, a few soft handling dings/pin-prick scuffs here and there, otherwise fine. REALLY strong inking and pretty bright borders on this one.

A KILLER example of this early 1966 1st printing Grateful Dead poster from the Avalon- this was the band's VERY FIRST appearance at the venue, pre-dating the FD 10 "Hayfever" show by a week.
