Description

 Original 1st printing 4&1/4 x 6&3/4" ad-backed (blue ink) concert handbill for "Black Magic Rock & Roll", a multi-act show held at Olympia Stadium in Detroit, MI on Halloween night, 10/31/1969.

 Acts/bands listed include (the Crazy World of) Arthur Brown, Dr. Timothy Leary, Frost, MC5, Ralph Adams, Peter Hurkos, the Amboy Dukes (featuring Ted Nugent), Bonzo Dog Band, the Stooges (featuring Iggy Pop), Coven, Pink Floyd, Savage Grace, Kim Fowley, Alice Cooper, Sky, Teegarden & Vanwinkle, "Satan", SRC, Frut, Bob Seger, All the Lonely People and the Pleasure Seekers (featuring Suzi Quatro). *For a list of who actually appeared, see the link at the bottom of the page.

 Art by Linz, image is # 138 in the Russ Gibb Presents/Grande series (event was co-promoted with Mike Quatro) and is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 301 (plate 3.147).

 Medium-thin flat glossy-coated index stock postcard is in good (B) condition; there is a bit of surface rubbing/smudging and a few light scratches scattered throughout the image area., along with a couple of tiny corner-tip bumps, a stray handling ding or two and a few tiny smudges on the reverse, otherwise fine.

  Apparently the advertising for this show was not even close to who actually played. While a number of the acts listed on the poster (including all of the English bands- Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Pink Floyd and Bonzo Dog Band) did not appear, a few (mostly local bands) played at the event (*from Glen Buxton's website (Alice Cooper);

Eyewitness Randy Foley kindly clarifies the situation: “I attended this concert. Called the Black Arts Rock‘n’Roll Festival, it was a fiasco, and a rip-off. Produced by shifty Mike Quatro, it touted Pink Floyd, Arthur Brown, the Bonzo Dog Band, and many of the Michigan bands, including Alice Cooper. I still have the original program and hand bill. And in the program, I wrote down the bands that played, in order. They were, in order from opener to closer: Plum Wine, Pluto, Ted Lucas, Frijid Pink, Früt, Teegarden and Van Winkle, The Stooges, Peter Hurkos, Sweetwater, SRC, Coven [set censored], Savage Grace [set aborted], The Frost [appeared, weren’t permitted to play], The Amboy Dukes [appeared, weren’t permitted to play].
