Description

Original 1st printing 17&1/2 x 23&1/8" untrimmed printer's proof (approximately 1/2" of extra border area around the outer margins) concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with the New Riders of the Purple Sage at Hill Auditorium on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI on 12/15/1971.

Art by Gary Grimshaw, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 393 (plate 4.187).

Medium-thick vellum stock proof is in very good to excellent (B/B+ to B+) condition; there are staple holes in all four corners with a series of tiny scuffs/pin-prick spots and a small nip tear or two going around the outer margin area, along with a few light handling dings here and there and a nearly-invisible horizontal bend near the top of the image area, otherwise it is a fine-looking example of this semi-uncommon Grimshaw Grateful Dead artifact.

I have had the poster a number of times over the years, but this is the first untrimmed/extra-border example I have seen. Check out a very crisp-sounding soundboard recording of the show HERE:
