Description

Original 1st printing 13&7/8 x 20&1/4" concert poster for the Rolling Stones appearing (*with Ike & Tina Turner, B.B. King and Terry Reid- not listed) at the San Diego (CA) Sports Arena on 11/10/1969.

Art by Randy Tuten with a photo by Ron Rafaelli, image is # 202 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series.

Medium-thick flat index stock poster is in used (B-) condition; there are tack/staple holes in all four corners, in the top/bottom center margins, and in the "N" of "Nov.", the four corners have pieces of clear tape covering a couple of the holes, along with a 1&3/4" tear in the left center margin, light handling wear, a couple of soft water stains around the "St" of "Stones" and a moderate amount of toning, a tiny bit of pencil scratch and a series of tape pulls on the reverse, in addition to the bottom strip of paper advertising the 11/11 show being removed (*explaination below)... definitely a "road worn" specimen.

While researching this example, an interesting piece of information came up- apparently ALL of the locally-distributed examples of this poster (the ones that were actually hung up around San Diego) had the bottom strips removed (in the exact same manner, with a tiny sliver of black along the bottom edge) when the second show (11/11) was canceled... the versions with the 11/11 2nd show strips along the bottom edge never left San Francisco, while the trimmed ones were all sent down to S.D.... as I was looking these up, I spotted three additional examples of this poster that all had identically-trimmed bottom edges, in addition to this one (which was owned at one point by a well-known area collector, whose name is penciled-in on the reverse)- all of them had wear/damage consistent with public/outdoor display, while the ones with the 11/11 strip all seem to be in near mint/uncirculated shape... while the condition on this one may not appeal to some folks, I'm pretty confident that it was actually used to advertise the show.
