Original 1st printing 19&1/4 x 25" concert poster for the Grand Opening of the Straight Theater in San Francisco, CA. Three shows are listed, from 7/21-23/1967, featuring: Quicksilver Messenger Service, Mount Rushmore, the New Salvation Army Banned and Mother Earth (featuring Tracy Nelson, 7/21), Country Joe & the Fish, the Charlatans, Blue Cheer and Freedom Highway (7/22) and the Grateful Dead with Big Brother & the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin), Phoenix and Wildflower (7/23).
Art by Frank Melton, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 200 (plate 2.220).
Medium-thin semi-gloss stock poster is in used (B-) condition; there is a large "#1" written in marker in the lower right corner, along with a home-restored/patched in (with clear tape) top right corner tip, several small tears scattered around the outer margin area, a bit of light creasing/handling wear and a few tiny stains along the top border... this example has definitely been around the proverbial block, but for such a large poster it's really not all that bad, all told- good/strong colors, unusual design, GREAT lineup... absolutely KILLER original 1967 poster from the Grand Opening of the Straight!
