Description

Original 1st printing 17 x 22" event poster, "Can You Pass the Acid Test?", Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters' legendary series of LSD-fueled multi-media happenings/parties held up and down the West Coast from November 1965 through October 1966. "Happeners" (participants/acts) listed on the poster include: the Fugs, Allen Ginsberg, the aforementioned Merry Pranksters, Neal Cassady, the Grateful Dead and "Roy's Audioptics" (Prankster Roy Seburn's light show).

Art by Paul Foster (sometimes mis-credited to Norman Hartweg), image (1980's-era printing (*the 11 x 17" ones are ALL from the '80's) hand-colored by Sunshine Kesey) is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 91 (plate 2.4)- this is the large-version goldenrod/yellow-orange blank (no info/unused) poster.

Medium-thin flat index stock poster is in good/decent (B/B-) condition; there are a pair of semi-flattened/pressed-out horizontal/vertical folds (item was folded up into 1/4ths and mailed to someone at the time), along with a roughly 1" area of tattering/missing paper out of the top right corner, a pair of pin holes in the upper right margin/top right corner, a bit of light toning around the edges, a soft/rounded corner tip or two, a light amount of handling wear, a few tiny edge/corner creases, otherwise fine.

Conditional issues aside, there is not much I can add to the importance of this piece as far as historical significance (WAY too much to go into here), but needless to say, this piece sits right at the peak of the early West Coast psychedelic music/art scene. A true opportunity for someone!
