Description

Original 1st printing 14&1/2 x 25&1/4" concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with Spirit of Creation at the Student Union Ballroom on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City on 4/12/1969.

Art by Richard Taylor, image is featured in the Art of Rock on page 382 (plate 4.156).

Medium-thick glossy-coated index stock poster has been restored to good/very good (B to B/B+) condition; the bottom margin has had a bit of work to repair several tears, along with a small paper fill in the bottom left corner tip, a slightly stained/discolored area and a tightened stress crease in the lower right margin/edge, a bit of handling wear, a few tiny stress creases hiding within the image area, a slight degree of moiture warp to the paper and the reverse side has a fair amount of toning, tape marks and the remnants of an original bumper sticker from the show (which was used to cinch the poster together when it was originally rolled up.... in 1969! (*see photo)... definitely not perfect, but still presentable and 100% original (*there is a nearly-identical reprint).

All told, a very decent-looking original 1st printing 1969 Grateful Dead concert poster from a (reportedly) VERY tiny venue. Check out a GREAT-sounding recording of the show (including Bob Weir's infamously horrid "yellow dog" joke) HERE:
