Description

Original 1st printing (magenta/light purple lettering, OP-2 in the Eric King guide) 13&1/2 x 24&1/2" concert poster for Jefferson Airplane, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Muddy Waters appearing together at the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland in San Francisco, CA from 9/23-25 and from 9/30-10/2/1966. (*Winterland shows were canceled/moved back to the Fillmore)

Art by Wes Wilson, image ("The Sound") is # 29 in the Bill Graham/Fillmore series.

Medium flat vellum stock poster is in good/decent (B to B/B-) condition; there are staple holes in all four corners, with a bit of edge wear (creasing and a tiny bit of edge peeling) in the upper left/right corner tips, along with a 1" tear in the top center margin, a few stray edge nicks/tiny creases scattered around the outer margin area, fairly small areas of creasing (about 1-2" square) in the upper left and bottom center margins, a series of nearly-invisible thin horizontal roll bends and vertical stress creases hiding within the image area, a decent-sized tape pull on the reverse and a loose surface spot or two... definitely a bit of a battle-tested veteran, but still a fine-looking example of this original 1st printing 1966 Fillmore poster that would be a welcome addition to just about any psychedelic poster collection.

These shows were Bill Graham's first extended-engagement bookings, covering two full weeks of shows. Were it not for a bit of unplanned civil unrest in the neighborhood that week, these would have been the first BG Winterland shows.
