Description

Original 1st printing (blue background version (there is also a gray background version) 16&7/8" square (diamond-shaped) concert poster for the Grateful Dead appearing with the Charles Lloyd Quartet (featuring Keith Jarrett and Jack DeJohnette) and the Mystery Trend at the Rock Garden in San Francisco, CA from 3/28-4/2/1967 (dates are hand-altered on the poster in black flair pen).

Art by Michael Wood/Pyxis Studios, image is featured in the Art of Rock book on page 196 (plate 2.212).

Medium-thick flat vellum stock poster is in good (B) condition; there is a 1/2" diagonal wedge of paper torn off of the left-side corner tip, along with several well-placed staple/tack holes, a few thin vertical stress bends and a couple of small edge tears scattered around the outer edges/corners, a hint of toning, a few stray bends/stress creases and handling dings scattered throughout the image area, the aforementioned hand-corrected dates and a couple of pieces of archival tape (sealing the edge tears) with a few soft spots on the reverse side, otherwise OK.

Fairly uncommon early-'67 Grateful Dead poster from a VERY short-lived and semi-obscure San Francisco venue. For the interesting back story (along with equally fascinating commentary), read HERE:
