Original 1969 20 x 30" pen/ink (with pencil underlines) artwork on extra-thick vellum art board for the Orson Welles Cinema, located in Cambridge, MA.
Design by (and SIGNED and dated '69 in pencil by) Alton Kelley (lower right corner), artwork is in SUPERB shape- there are a few tiny surface smudges, small white-out corrections in a few spots, a couple of soft surface stains, a couple of the overlays ("Orson Welles" at the top, "Mass. Ave." at the bottom) are slightly discolored/toned, plus there is a single pin hole in the center of the image (from where Kelley placed a the tip of a protractor), a few tiny pin-prick surface stains here and there and a stray thin scratch/tiny scuff or two, but overall the piece looks FANTASTIC. While this piece was originally created for an underground movie house in Massachusetts, Kelley later re-purposed the central image (the winged heart) for the cover of Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart's 1972 solo album, "Rolling Thunder" (see photo).
INCREDIBLY COOL ONE-OF-A-KIND late-1960's-era Kelley original artwork with a really neat Grateful Dead connection.
