Original 1st printing 17&3/8 x 22&1/2" event/concert poster for the 6/27-28/1970 opening shows of the Trans-Continental Pop Festival, held at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The poster (the first and second shows on the legendary "Festival Express" train tour across Canada) lists performances by the Band, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin (*and the Full-Tilt Boogie Band), Buddy Guy, Delaney & Bonnie, Mashmakan, Cat (*Mother & the All-Night Newsboys), Traffic (with Steve Winwood), Ten Years After, Charlebois, James & the Good Brothers, Eric Andersen, Mountain, Ian & Sylvia (with the Great Speckled Bird), Tom Rush, Sea Train and Melanie.
Design by Ken Walker and John Lown, image is featured in the Art of Rock on page 376 (plate 4.132).
Medium-thin flat index stock poster is in good to very good (B to B/B+) condition; there are a set of tack holes (all four corners, a couple of edge dings, light handling, a few soft pin-prick stains in the lower left margin, a few tiny edge dings (with a small nip out of the upper right margin/edge and a n approximately 1-1&1/2" dark drip stain with a semi-soft surface pull in the upper left margin (right above "1970"), otherwise fine.
As mentioned above, these were the opening shows of the tour- there was quite a bit of unrest outside the venue and a few scuffles with the local law enforcement were reported. Here's a clip of the Band (featuring the one and only Levon Helm) performing "The Weight" from the "Festival Express" film;
